Huvsgul Lake
This huge, deep lake situated on the north edge of Mongolia covers an area of 2,612 sq.kms. It is a large lake, extending 134kms north-south and 39 kms east-west. 96 rivers and streams flow into the lake of Huvsgul. The Egiin river exits from it, draining into the Orkhon river and eventually into the Lake Baikal in the Russian Federation. With a maximum depth of 262metres, Huvsgul nuur is the deepest lake in Central Asia. Its water is crystal clear and fresh. The reflection of Larch forests and majestic mountains in the lake water are amazing. Plenty of fish are found inside the lake, such as Baikal Omul,Lenok, Amber, Sibirian Greyling and River Perch. TheTsaatan reindeer herders live in the taiga forest and forest steppe. |
