Manzushir Monastery and Museum

Located in a beautiful valley south of the Bogd Khaan mountain range, it is one hour drive from Ulaanbaatar. The monastery was destroyed in the 1930s, but a reconstruction project is underway. The ruins of the original monastery, dating from 1733, are still clearly visible. An image of God, carved in the granite rock at the monastery, is a unique historical and cultural relic. A brief visit of the museum will introduce you to some of the wildlife and natural beauties of the area. A short walks bring then you to the monastery itself. At the Monastery, there is a big boiling kettle cast in bronze from 1726. The kettle could hold food for 1000 monks. Depending on your time and energy, you may as well climb up to the top of the granite cliff for splendid views. From the top, if you look northwards, you will see the peak of Tsetsee Gun, which attains a height of 2257 metres above sea level. It is the highest peak of the Bogd Khan mountain range. The peak is a 3hour hike away (6 hours round trip).
