Gobi Gurvan Saikhan National Park
Gurvan Saikhan is a mountain range composed of schist and sedimentary rocks of the Paleozoic age. The national park covers an area of 4100sq.kms and is protected since 1994. The national park includes the Yoliin Am gorge, which is a the strictly protected area. It is a narrow canyon carved by a river which flows through the mountain of Zuun Saikhan uul (2815metres).The gorge has got rock walls up to about 200metres high. The canyon is protected since 1965 and covers 70sq.kms.
Only two people at once can pass in the narrowest part of the canyon. Despite the sunshine, the place is quite dark. You can see the sky above you as a narrow blue line. Argalis and Sibirian ibexes are found in this place. |
