The Gandan Monastery

The biggest Buddhist Monastery of Ulaanbaatar was founded in 1838 as a religious centre on the initiative of 5. Bogd Khan. The convent school of Gandan was admitted as the only training centre for Lamaismus in Mongolia during the communist rule. Nowadays. the monastery counts about 300 monks. Half of the monks are students.
